Elizabethan and contemporary hair styles
Researching into our how they would wear their hair back in the Elizabethan times and I have uploaded a few images I found that reflect the traditional hair design used back in the 16th century and also images of how in the modern time we have been influenced by Elizabethan design but designed it for a modern day audience with e.g. using loose curls, making the hair less neat and structured compared to the Elizabethan times, which was tight curls, neat but bold frizzed rounded buns etc.
I enjoyed looking into different portraits and then seeing how people have interrupted the traditional Elizabethan and made it into their own version, which is very interesting.

I looked into contemporary versions of the Elizabethan design and found many images from books, internet sources that I felt were inspired by the 16th century. With use of frizz, big, bold shapes and a lot of texture.
Both above image and below images are all from- David LaChapelle- Reference: LaChapelle Land Book
I love the Elizabethan take on these modern day images, with the use of keeping the hair big and frizzed with a lot of texture which was used in the Elizabethan times, with the shape being rounded but chaotic which I really love about these images from David LaChapelle. Curls, frizz and waves in the hair are used which were common techniques used in the Elizabethan times and seeing them make the design more wild and contemporary is refreshing and fits today's audience well.
This image is also great, with the loose curls pinned up style with the accessory of the hat and netting, this photo makes me think on the same lines of Elizabethan with the accessories, the curls and the way it is lifted giving it a big shape on top. I love how contemporary it has become with the use of bold colours and how free the curls are making it look fun and modern.
